BP Clair Ridge

The giant Clair Ridge oil field is the UK’s largest hydrocarbon resource; total volumes initially in place across the entire field are currently estimated at more than 7 billion barrels of oil. The Clair Ridge field is estimated to be producing oil beyond the year 2050 and is the largest platform to be placed in the North Sea.

IPU were awarded the starting systems for both generator sets on the platform, this was a huge and important task.

The installation of the hydraulic start system for the generators called for many special requirements such as the use of 6Mo fittings, tubing and close liaison with the end user; the system layout was highly important as it had to allow the removal of the equipment through the container wall, as available space was extremely limited. There were numerous nominated vendors and the accumulator incorporated BP requirements for gas side safety.
