Diesel Defender Fuel Additive

Diesel Defender promotes and maintains a clean fuel delivery system via the inclusion of a deposit control additive. This keeps the fuel injectors clean giving optimum fuel flow, combustion and emissions quality.
IPU’s additive enhances fuel resistance to microbial contamination. Fuel tanks are prime breeding grounds for all manner of contamination, including diesel bug. If left unchecked these quickly multiply creating fuel sludge, which results in blocked filters and stopped engines.
In addition, it increases the fuel’s resistance to water. Modern fuels containing FAME are naturally hygroscopic. Even a small increase in water content will reduce the energy content of the fuel and may create fuel-water emulsions. The additive promotes continuous fuel-water separation and will break emulsions giving optimum fuel quality. Read more about water contamination here.
Fuel left to stand quickly oxidises with the potential to form deposits in tanks and fuel delivery systems. FAME-containing fuels are particularly susceptible to this. The additive inhibits the oxidation tendency and allows for safe, longer term storage.
Today’s diesel has also seen a reduction in the sulphur content, in order to reduce harmful emissions. This has an impact on the fuel’s natural lubricity leading to excessive or premature wear in fuel pumps and injection equipment. IPU’s Diesel Defender protects the fuel’s lubricity to prevent unnecessary wear in the engine.
This unique additive formulation contains dispersant and deposit control chemistries and is specifically designed for critical uptime applications where bulk fuels are stored on a prolonged basis.
The product is formulated from recognised fuel additive components and should not void an engine manufacturer’s warranty. In fact, very many engine manufacturers recognise the need for upgrade additives when red/green diesel is used.

- What does Diesel Defender do?
This product will:
- improve day to day running of diesel engines
- offer greater stabilisation to fuel during storage
- raises the cetane number to avoid rough running in newer engines
- offering lubrication for fuel pumps
- guarantee lower deposit formation in injectors
The formulation also contains stability additives and a biocide at a ‘protect’ level to keep fuel fresh when it is stored for long periods. Fuel will keep fresh for up to 2 years even when it contains up to 7% biodiesel.
This additive will off-set any negative effects resulting from the introduction of the latest gas oil specifications, notably the reduction in sulphur content and the increase in the allowable FAME (biodiesel) content and will give improved fuel economy.
- Why do I need a fuel additive?
The addition of FAME (fatty acid methyl ester) or biodiesel to petroleum diesel has been on the increase for many years. This has lead to a series of new problems experienced by fuel users and site operators across UK.
2019 saw a record number of reported problems relating the this problem. Examination of fuel filters found the material on the filter media to contain an unusually high amount of Biodiesel Precipitates: Sterol Glucosides, Monoglycerides, as well as Stearic Monoglycerides. The presence of these in fuel will result in premature fuel blockage.
- What are Biodiesel Precipitates and why are they important?
Sterol Glucosides and Monoglycerides are natural materials found in FAME. Once they have precipitated out of the fuel, these compounds will not readily dissolve back into solution with the bulk fuel unless a temperature of 40°C. Precipitation is accelerated at lower temperatures, but can also occur in ambient summer conditions.
