Fuel Conditioning – Avoiding critical system failure due to dirty diesel

November 24th, 2014 in Fuel Conditioning, News

It’s a common misconception that to incorporate a fuel conditioning programme is a major undertaking. Many organisations also assume that for a tank to be cleaned it needs to be drained and that fuel purchased in June will be just as good in December. But these myths are not entirely true. If left untouched, fuel WILL become contaminated. This is because it’s virtually impossible to stop water from entering the supply chain. Water encourages microbial growth (aka the diesel bug) which can lead to the clogging up of fuel filters and the early wear of critical injection system parts. IPU’s fuel conditioning programme can keep your fuel clean and dry without draining your…

UK National Grid Warns of Power Shortages

National Grid warns of lowest spinning reserve for nearly a decade

October 28th, 2014 in Fuel Conditioning, News

The UK’s National Grid has today warned that its spinning reserve this winter will be at a seven-year low due to generator closures and breakdowns. The organisation claims that spare electricity capacity will be at just 4% this year. Last year it ran at 5% during the winter months which is a significant drop as just three years ago the margin was 17%. If bad weather hits the UK this winter it could result in the biggest risk of blackouts for nearly a decade. Today has also seen the UK’s Shadow Energy Secretary, Caroline Flint, tell the viewers of Good Morning Britain, that the closure of old power stations and a lack of investment could result in power shortages. She advised…

Warning of UK power shortages – are you safe from DRUPS failure?

August 7th, 2014 in Fuel Conditioning, News

Mayor of London warns PM of electricity shortages in the near future Boris Johnson, Mayor of London used the Sunday Times to warn that the lights in London could be dimmed or go out altogether because of a failure to invest in Britain’s energy infrastructure. With existing power stations already under pressure, demand is expected to double in the next 35 years. The energy watchdog Ofgem has also warned that maximum generating capacity could be just 2% above peak demand next year.
