Findings published by the Women’s Engineering Society in March 2016 states that only 9% of the engineering workforce in the UK is female. This is a disappointing statistic that simply has to change. IPU works hard to support gender diversity and equality. The company operates an equal pay policy, which is based on job role and not the gender of the job holder. Females make up 21.43% of IPU’s workforce, and this figure is steadily increasing year on year. As part of IPU’s celebration of International Women…

Read more…When we’re asked by a casual enquirer whether they’re likely to need fuel tank cleaning for their stored diesel we usually highlight three factors that advance fuel contamination. The alert signals for fuel tank cleaning Old fuel: if diesel is stored for more than six months, tank cleaning is recommended. If it’s stored for more than twelve months it becomes essential. Modern biodiesel blends degrade over time; the longer they’re stored, the more contaminated they become. Harsh conditions: outdoor tanks suffer worse contamination than indoor tanks because they suffer greater temperature changes and are more vulnerable to water pollution. Changes in temperature…

To achieve this they must operate at very high pressures, but engine manufacturers warn that this increases the risk of failure if the fuel used is not clean. To be recognised as clean the fuel must meet a rating of 18/16/13 on the ISO 4406 cleanliness scale. Manufacturers therefore recommend that clients should adopt a stringent fuel conditioning programme, especially if fuel is to be stored for 6 months or more. Why is dirty diesel a problem? When operating at high pressure any small, hard particles in the fuel become a source of potential system malfunction. If left untreated…
