IPU Mini triumphant at Donington
The May 5-7th Historic Festival at Donington marked the IPU/Beebee Mini’s first event of the season.
To improve reliability and to reduce running costs an IPU OilAlert sensor has been fitted with an in-car display to warn either Robert or Josh of potential engine problems. If you zoom into the photo on this page you can see the sensor at the front left (as we look at it) of the engine bay.
Two races were entered against the usual array of Ford Mustangs, Lotus Cortinas and BMWs. The ‘real’ race though was against other Minis running in the same class. Josh continued his success of last year and put the car on pole for both events. Pole for the first race was in a time of 1:26.923; second position was 1:26.924, just one thousandth of a second slower – very tight!
Both one hour races saw close fights between the IPU/Beebee and the Swift/Lewis Minis. In both races the IPU/Beebee car emerged victorious – an amazing weekend.
Robert and Josh were presented the Christian Devereux Memorial Trophy in memory of our Mini driving friend who was tragically killed at this event last year.
The OilAlert Sensor Display registered ‘normal’ throughout the event which inspires confidence in the engine and the sensor. The display can be seen in the cockpit photo.
Brands Hatch is our next event on May 26-28th.
Watch this space for some exciting video (you could say that our video editing isn’t quite as fast as the Mini)…
