IPU Group, a West Midlands based supplier and manufacturer of
large engine components and systems, has been placed 48th in the
Sunday Times ‘Best Small Companies to Work For’ list released on 1
March 2009, and awarded a two star rating as part of the ‘Best
Companies’ Accreditation scheme in the UK – which measures the
company’s engagement with employees.
The Sunday Times national listing is the sixth annual review of companies with no fewer than 565 small companies seeking a place on the ‘elite’ 100 list. This year 34,295 employees were surveyed, making it one of the most comprehensive studies of workplace opinion and employee engagement measuring key factors such as leadership, my manager, personal growth, well-being, my team, giving something back, my company and fair deal.
IPU Group was one of the best-ranked West Midlands companies and was the highest placed engineering manufacturer in the list, which strongly featured marketing and professional services firms.
Robert Beebee, Group Managing director said: ‘I am delighted that our people feel so positive about IPU Group. It shows that our total commitment to creating a positive environment for our staff has made a big difference to their experience of working in our company.’
The award is particularly special as it coincides with the company celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2009. Roy Beebee originally started the family business in 1959 (father of the current managing director Robert Beebee) when it began importing JLO engines for the Go-Kart market.
Since then, engines both large and small– gas and diesel, have always been at the centre of the company’s activities. The company now operates from a dedicated site in the West Midlands where it offers a number of divisions specializing in engine control & monitoring, non-electric starting, oil and fuel filtration, pre-heating and silencing for the independent power, industrial engine, marine and construction plant & equipment markets.
The ‘Times Best Company’ award was presented to Robert Beebee and Ian Cleary at a prestigious ceremony in London.
